Jacking Systems

The F&G Jacking System is designed for elevating and lowering the hull and supporting the hull in normal (non-storm) conditions. During storm and rig tow conditions, the hull will be fixed to the legs with the F&G Rack Chock system and the jacking system will be in an electrically released mode with no structural loading. Based on the proven success of Friede & Goldman, Ltd.'s jacking system history, new state-of-the-art designs have been developed to operate on all our newly designed jack-ups. Three different systems have been developed which are integrated into the basic design of our jack-ups and are approved for use on the F&G jack-up designs. These include the F&G VFD-440, VFD-750, and VFD-850 systems.

SPHS

The Simultaneous Pipe Handling System (SPHS®) is a patented (applied for and published) tubular handling system that has the capability to handle drilling tubulars (drill pipe, drill collars and/or Hevi-Wate), casing, and drive pipe. The SPHS® has Online, Offline and Simultaneous (Online and Offline at the same time) tubular handling capability using one drawworks, one drillfloor, one rotary, and one derrick, which make it unique and thus patentable.  The operator may solely use just the online feature or the offline feature by itself or operate both at the same time (simultaneous).  Great effort was exerted to keep the SPHS® simple and to alleviate system complexity, so it requires minimal training and maintenance support. The SPHS® can be supplied as a complete system or each component may be purchased individually.

Rack Chock

During the 1980's, Friede & Goldman, Ltd. designed and patented a new and innovative leg fixation system for jack-up drilling rigs named the "Rack Chock". Since that time, the system has been updated and integrated with an F&G designed jacking system to form one integral unit known as "ARCOS" (Advanced Rack Chock Operating System). ARCOS provides easy assembly and operation on board jack-up vessels.

Skidding System

Cantilever Skidding Systems offered by Friede & Goldman, Ltd., provide proven and reliable methods for jacking the cantilever from its storage position to its operational position and back. The two skidding units are mounted to main deck foundations on the inside of the cantilever beams. The Cantilever Skidding System is hydraulically powered by two large cylinders acting on each cantilever beam. Friede & Goldman, Ltd. offers custom configured and pre-configured Lift and Roll style of Drill Floor Skidding Systems as well as a proven track record for providing reliable, safe, efficient, and long-term service for Offshore Drilling Units.

CTU

The Conductor Tensioning Unit (CTU) is designed for use with any of the jack-up rigs designed by others. The CTU consists of four (4) pairs of hydraulic cylinders driving a lifting ring and is adjustable for 30" and 36" strings. The cylinders have up to a 600mm stroke. The CTU system includes isolation valves, and each accumulator bottle is individually isolated. The system is isolated from the power unit., and a Lift Tool Assembly is included. The CTU Lift Tool attaches to drill pipe hung from the top drive and connects into the center of the CTU base.

CPHS

The Cartridge Pipe Handling System (CPHS) is a patent-applied-for system that consists of a derrick-mounted Bridge Racker Crane and a self-contained Catwalk/Cartridge Handling Machine mounted to the drill floor and bridging to the pipe deck. The Cartridges are independent storage certified lifting and handling devices that house multiple tiers of tubular (drill pipe, drill collar or casing) of multiple sizes. The Cartridges are also stackable and require no direct human contact with tubulars to operate. The Cartridges are loaded and unloaded by the use of Cartridge Manipulating Carriages that operate within the confines of an elevated catwalk-type structure mounted to the end of the drill floor. The Cartridge Manipulating Carriages load or unload the Cartridges to feed a push/pull trolley system that delivers and retrieves drill pipe from well center. The Catwalk/Cartridge Handling Machine structure also provides a means of access for maintenance to the Cartridge Handling Machine and to the drill floor from the pipe deck.
